Blog:

I travel the world in search of stories about people, places, sounds, and nature that can be portrayed in my studio. Each of us sees the world differently through personal experience, which is why I strive to record my own experiences on paper, to freeze the moment in time.

Reflecting

February 21, 2016 in Gallery, Painting, Personal

Over the past year I’ve discovered for myself a new way of painting, which involves working on paper rather than canvas. I’ve grown found of it and developed  a strong level of comfort doing so.  Working on paper rather than canvas is somehow less fragile and there is an element of  lightness to it and the results look more effortless.

I also realized that my work is both about thinking and feeling at the same time. Drawing is mostly thinking, where i plan the shapes out and overall composition. Colour is mostly intuitive and depends a lot on the mood and feelings of the moment. Learning to switch between thinking and feeling at the right time is a recipe for success!

Conceptually, I'm still very much drawn to various feminine images, incorporating fashion elements and trends into my recent series, creating a body of work with a unified aesthetic.

Special thanks to Sokos hotel in Saint Petersburg for showcasing my most recent works  at your premises this weekend.

Please feel free to contact me I will gladly respond.  Say hello@nellytsyrlin.com
