There really is no end to painting. I constantly look out for new ideas, shapes and color combinations. Some mixtures and combinations work better than others like old-time proof recipes. Others, are one of a kind stand alone versions that won’t be replicated.
My main color is payne’s gray . I love it because it is neither blue nor black and yet both. I love to wear it and I love to work with it as it’s temperature is cool enough to compliment any warm bright color on the color wheel such as hot pink, or other favorite Indian yellow. As well it always works equally well with neutrals like raw siena and yellow ochre. My work narrates my emotional experiences. If I’m feeling sad even the brightest colors won’t hide it - It will show through. The ups and downs of my life are all documented on paper. Sometimes, I create one composition and that becomes enough to let all my feeling and emotions out and close the chapter. At other times, I explore ideas and experiences I’m going through via a short series of pieces. When I gather this momentum, I try to act fast as I know they these emotions won’t last forever. The summer 2019 series is a set of works I did while visiting family in Toronto, and it is all about that. Thoughts and feelings associated with that time, they’re very personal and intimate and yet universal. Bellow are selected 8 new pieces I’ve created in my garage studio, where I used my signature colors alongside a few new, fresh recipes. For inquiries hello@nellytsyrlin.com
